Rick Schwim, who owns and runs Clarens Inn and Backpackers, moved to this beautiful property next to the mountain 38 years ago. Starting small, he slowly built up his property and house and then later bought the neighbouring apple orchard where the backpackers stands today. Rick and his family live in Clarens and his most treasured experiences are the events and people that the Backpackers has hosted over the years. The Friends Jamboree, an annual friends gathering in December, brings music and laughter and long time friends together next to the mountain. Musicians such as Dan Patlansky, host their workshops on the property and is a sought after event to attend. Many happy travellers pass through this place.
